The Ackender Hill development is a collection of 3, 4 and 5 bedroom homes. The 300 units will be a mixture of private and affordable housing, built to exacting standards, with appearance, comfort and energy efficiency at the very heart of every design. The properties will be marketed by Charters Estate Agency in Alton High Street.

The site is located on the dilapidated remains of the Princess Louise Hospital, which was originally opened in 1903 to treat soldiers returning from the Boer War. In 1907, this was replaced by the Lord Maylor Treloar’s Cripples Hospital and College to treat children up to the age of 12 suffering from tuberculous disease of the bones and joints.  A new hospital was then relocated to the town centre of Alton.

The site is also situated near to the home of author Jane Austen.

Chawton Park is surrounded by attractive meadowland and woodland, including two ancient brick water towers.  These will be repaired and converted into bat roosts and advice taken from the Bat Conservancy Trust.

Managing a bat home will certainly be a new and exciting challenge for our property manager Amanda Rickwood.

Our role as managing agents of the new development consist of looking after the communal areas including unadopted roads, landscaping and the children’s play area as well as managing the shared apartment buildings.

We are pleased to be able to offer our extensive property management experience to such a prestigious development, helping them set up the residents’ management company, providing advice on the company structure and preparing budgets.

The development is being released in phases, with the first one recently released and Crest Nicholson hoping to welcome their first homeowners next year. We are looking forward to managing the new development, and the bats as well!
